1730-1830 Session III Freedom G

  • Welcome, Agenda Review and Status Update (WG Chairs) -- 10 mins

(17:30)
Timothy Winters, QA Cafe, tim@qacafe.com
Bernie Volz, Unaffiliated (Retired) , bevolz@gmail.com

Presented by Timothy (on-site).

  • DHCPv6 (RFC 8415) to Internet Standard -- 20 mins
    Bernie Volz
    (17:40)

Presented by Bernie Volz (Remote).

Poll for advancing RFC 8415 to Internet Standard was overwhelmingly in
favor. (12 approves/1 did not)

Question about whether IA_TA should really be removed given it is
security.

Suresh asked about some of the newer features since 3315 that are in
8415 and whether they have been tested (i.e., solmax-rt). Bernie and Tim
mentioned that USGv6 DHCPv6 testing is being updated for 8415 and will
test some (many?) of these features.

Will take main questions to the mailing list:

  • Advance DHCPv6 to Internet Standard?
  • Team to work on 8415bis document (8415 co-authors)
  • How to handle Errata regarding Server-Unicast?
  • Whether to deprecated IA_TA or not?
  • How to track newer features to assure have sufficient
implmementation status (perhaps new USGv6 8415 testing)?

  • Distribute SRv6 Locator by DHCP -- 10 mins
    (18:00)
    Weiqiang Cheng/Yuanxiang Qiu
    https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-cheng-dhc-distribute-srv6-locator-by-dhcp/

Preseneted by Weiqiang Cheng (Remote).

Bernie asked what happens when a client requests this but a server
doesn't understand this new option; server will allocate a "normal"
prefix. Perhaps consider making OPTION_SRV6_LOCATOR a
IA_SRV6_LOCATOR option. Bernie also asked about having SRV6 experts
paricipate?

Erik Kline - Bernie covered issues.

Presented by Warren.

Bernie asked about what happens if multiple different clients register
an address; server responsible for just recording each update.

Vicky Risk asked about whether there is an ACK (REPLY). (Bernie mentions
here that Section 5.3 does talk about retransmissions). There was also
some discussion about timers.

Lorenzo Colitti commented on Jabber that as for creating lots of
addresses question, that's really no different than DHCPv6 itself where
a client can send lots of Solicits.

Eric Kinnear mentioned that using this for anything more than just
information log opens can of worms.

Philipp Tiesel asked about routers reporting used addresses.

  • Next Steps (WG Chairs w/AD Support) -- 10 mins
    (18:20)

Not discussed as ran out of time.

Most notes by Bernie Volz, but others encouraged to add more details or
correct my misunderstandings.
