Summary: The progression of this document is halted as it is waiting IANA registry changes described by draft-sipos-dtn-bpv7-admin-iana, an individual submission document not adopted by the DTN WG.

Details: This document originally specified the restructuring of the of "Bundle Administrative Record Types" sub-registry to add a Bundle Protocol Version field; and requested code points in this sub-registry.  After AD Review but before IETF LC, this restructuring was removed from this document, and described in draft-sipos-dtn-bpv7-admin-iana.  As this document requests code points in a way that assumes a restructured "Bundle Administrative Record Type" sub-registry, it is blocked from proceeding (without changing the request) as the registration is not possible.  As such, this document is parked awaiting changes to the registry.  The action is with the DTN WG to decide on the fate of draft-sipos-dtn-bpv7-admin-iana.

(Via drafts-lastcall-comment@iana.org): IESG/Authors/WG Chairs:

The IANA Functions Operator has completed its review of draft-ietf-acme-dtnnodeid-07. If any part of this review is inaccurate, please let us know.

The IANA Functions Operator has a question about one of the actions requested in the IANA Considerations section of this document.

The IANA Functions Operator understands that, upon approval of this document, there are three actions which we must complete.

First, in the ACME Identifier Types registry on the Automated Certificate Management Environment (ACME) Protocol registry page located at:

https://www.iana.org/assignments/acme/

a single, new registration is to be made as follows:

Label: bundleEID
Reference: [RFC3986][ RFC-to-be ]

As this document requests registrations in an Expert Review or Specification Required (see RFC 8126) registry, we will initiate the required Expert Review via a separate request. This review must be completed before the document's IANA state can be changed to "IANA OK."

Second, in the ACME Validation Methods registry also on the on the Automated Certificate Management Environment (ACME) Protocol registry page located at:

https://www.iana.org/assignments/acme/

a single, new registration is to be made as follows:

Label: dtn-nodeid-01
Identifier Type: bundleEID
ACME: Y
Reference: [ RFC-to-be ]

As this also requests registrations in an Expert Review or Specification Required (see RFC 8126) registry, we will initiate the required Expert Review via a separate request. This review must be completed before the document's IANA state can be changed to "IANA OK."

Third, in the Bundle Administrative Record Types registry on the Bundle Protocol registry page located at:

https://www.iana.org/assignments/bundle/

a single, new registration is to be added to the registry:

+=========================+========+==============+===============+
| Bundle Protocol Version | Value | Description | Reference |
+=========================+========+==============+===============+
| 7 | AR-TBD | ACME Node ID | [ RFC-to-be ] |
| | | Validation | |
+-------------------------+--------+--------------+---------------+

IANA Question --> is this, third IANA action dependent on the completion of the IANA actions in the document [draft-sipos-bpv7-admin-iana]?

The IANA Functions Operator understands that these are the only actions required to be completed upon approval of this document.

Note:  The actions requested in this document will not be completed until the document has been approved for publication as an RFC. This message is meant only to confirm the list of actions that will be performed.

Thank you,

Michelle Cotton

Subject: Last Call:  (Automated Certificate Management Environment (ACME) Delay-Tolerant Networking (DTN) Node ID Validation Extension) to Experimental RFC

The IESG has received a request from the Automated Certificate Management
Environment WG (acme) to consider the following document: - 'Automated
Certificate Management Environment (ACME) Delay-Tolerant
Networking (DTN) Node ID Validation Extension'
  as Experimental RFC

The IESG plans to make a decision in the next few weeks, and solicits final
comments on this action. Please send substantive comments to the
last-call@ietf.org mailing lists by 2021-11-29. Exceptionally, comments may
be sent to iesg@ietf.org instead. In either case, please retain the beginning
of the Subject line to allow automated sorting.

Abstract

This document specifies an extension to the Automated Certificate
Management Environment (ACME) protocol which allows an ACME server to
validate the Delay-Tolerant Networking (DTN) Node ID for an ACME
client.  The DTN Node ID is encoded as a certificate Subject
Alternative Name (SAN) of type otherName with a name form of
BundleEID and as an ACME Identifier type "bundleEID".
