1. Summary
This document defines the application/cms media type for CMS (Cryptographic
Message Syntax) content types. It is similar to, but different from, the
application/pkcs7-mime media type for S/MIME messages in that there are many
CMS messages that are not S/MIME messages. It is an independent submission.
Paul Hoffman is the document shepherd, and Stephen Farrell is the responsible
area director.
2. Review and Consensus
This document is an independent submission and not part of any WG. It was
brought to the attention of the AppsAWG list, but got no response. It was also
discussed on the media-types@ietf.org lisit. It might get a bit more notice in
IETF Last Call, but probably no more than any other boring media type request.
3. Intellectual Property
I have not suveyed the authors for IPR because it is just a media type
registration, not a definition of any new technology.
4. Other Points
This is intended to be an Informational RFC, so downrefs are not relevant.
The IANA Considerations seems fine.
Really, it's just a media type registration.
